San Francisco, California – A fatal crash at bus stop in San Francisco has resulted in the deaths of two adults and a child, while a wounded baby remains hospitalized. Authorities reported that a 78-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the accident.
Mary Fong Lau, a San Francisco resident, was apprehended on Sunday and remained in custody until Monday, as jail records show.
Jail officials confirmed on Monday that Lau had not yet appeared in court. There was no immediate knowledge of whether she had legal representation to speak on her behalf.
Lau faces three charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, as well as additional charges of reckless driving causing bodily injury and traffic violations, as reported by the San Francisco Police Department in an official statement.
On Saturday, March 16, 2024, in the West Portal neighborhood, a Mercedes van collided with a bus stop, claiming the lives of a man and a child at the accident scene, as indicated by police authorities. Additionally, three individuals, including Lau, were transported to hospitals for medical treatment.
The third victim, a woman, sadly passed away later in the hospital, police reported. Meanwhile, the injured baby remains in the hospital with injuries that could endanger their life, as highlighted by authorities.
