Rialto, California — A San Bernardino man has been arrested on two counts of murder following a tragic car crash in Rialto that claimed the lives of two young girls, ages 3 and 4, on Sunday night, the Rialto Police Department reported.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Riverside and Walnut Avenues. According to authorities, a blue Dodge Ram driven by 28-year-old Alexis Garcia collided with a white Honda Accord carrying the victims and their parents. Investigators determined that Garcia was speeding southbound on Riverside Avenue and failed to stop at a red light at Walnut Avenue before striking the Accord.
Police said Garcia, who was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, attempted to flee the scene but stopped about a quarter mile away, where he was taken into custody.
The two girls, seated in the back of the Accord, died at the scene. Their parents, a 24-year-old woman driving and a 25-year-old male passenger, sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
