Fresno County, California – The Fresno County community is on high alert following two fatal accidents at the same intersection within just eight days, prompting residents to demand urgent road safety improvements.
The first of the tragic incidents claimed the life of 25-year-old Kaiden Bailey, while the second left 16-year-old Sandro Lazo dead.
Joseph Benton, a nearby resident at the intersection of Fowler Avenue and Perrin Road, witnessed the accident that took Lazo’s life. “A family now has to live the rest of their lives without their son,” Benton said, still shaken by the tragedy.
Upon seeing the crowd and a visibly damaged truck, he and his wife quickly rushed to the scene. Benton recounted how his wife knelt to pray for the young boy, who was already unconscious.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident that claimed Sandro Lazo’s life occurred when the teenager turned his bicycle south on Fowler Avenue and was struck by a Dodge Ram truck. The street did not have a stop sign.
Kaiden Bailey’s accident, on the other hand, happened at the same intersection on July 31. According to CHP, Bailey was hit while standing next to a stopped car on Fowler Avenue at around 11:30 p.m.
The victims’ families and residents are calling for urgent measures to improve safety at the intersection of Fowler Avenue and Perrin Road. Bailey’s mother has requested a reduction in the speed limit in the area, while Benton advocates for installing a stop sign and increased police presence to prevent further tragedies.
Both Fresno accidents are currently under investigation by authorities. The community is preparing to bid farewell to Kaiden Bailey at a funeral service scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, August 16.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of these victims, and we hope the community’s efforts will be heard soon to bring about improved road safety in the area.
