Boy on Scooter Fatally Struck by Car in San Jose

San Jose, California – A boy riding a scooter was fatally struck by a car on Tuesday afternoon.

The scooter accident occurred around 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of Leigh and Camden Avenues when a young male, riding his scooter peacefully, was hit by a car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The police have not disclosed the exact age of the boy. The driver of the involved vehicle is fully cooperating with the investigation.

The tragic event resulted in the complete closure of the Leigh and Camden intersection in all directions, causing significant traffic disruption in the area. Police have urged residents and drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes while ongoing investigations and traffic diversions are in place.

Melanie Rodrigues, a resident, was informed of the accident by her son and quickly went outside. “I saw the boy lying in the street,” Rodrigues stated, adding that the victim was accompanied by his older brother at the time of the accident.

The tragedy has highlighted concerns about road safety in San Jose. Jadon Anderson, a city resident, commented on the constant danger due to drivers’ high speeds in the area. “These drivers just aren’t paying attention to what they’re doing,” Anderson remarked.

This accident marks the 30th fatal collision of the year in San Jose. Earlier that same day, the police department had issued a statement announcing the 29th traffic death of 2024, following the passing of a victim from a July 16 accident involving a vehicle and a bicycle.

This tragedy underscores the importance of paying attention while driving and adhering to speed limits to prevent future mishaps. Local authorities are working to clarify the details of the accident and ensure necessary measures are taken to prevent such incidents from happening again.
