[Patterson, CA] Three people were tragically killed in a head-on collision Monday afternoon near the intersection of Orange and Elm Avenues in Patterson, California.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a Ram pickup truck failed to yield at a stop sign and drove directly into the path of a Dodge SUV, resulting in a head-on collision. Both vehicles overturned onto their left sides off the road as a result. All three occupants of the Dodge — two men and one woman — were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the RAM, 20-year-old Mario Estrada of Crows Landing, and his passenger, 20-year-old Amy Gaspar of Ceres, were taken to Doctors Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. It remains under unknown whether or not Estrada ran the stop sign; however, it seems likely that he did not stop. It is also unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision, and seat belts will be inspected to see if they were used.
